About Us

Purpose

This website provides a place for Elangomats to work to keep the Elangomat idea alive.

Who we are

I’m William (Bill) Hartman of Melbourne, Florida. Based on the ideas of Ray Petit (later formalized into the Ten Induction Principles), I created the Elangomat program in 1969. Together, we must defend Goodman’s four-fold Ordeal and the Elangomat concept. Our ceremonies have changed over the years and can continue to change. But unless our ceremonies support an Elangomat four-fold Ordeal, the Order of the Arrow will be a hollow shell and no longer offer Goodman’s deep, challenging experience that has impacted lives for over 100 years.

Although I receive help from others, I take responsibility for this website. Individual posts and comments are the responsibility of their authors.

The website address is: https//elangomatsociety.org.

My other websites are:

Elangomat.org – Knowledge of the Elangomat program and possible improvements

AncientCircleOfTheArrow.org – How to take the OA international (Ancient Hunter instead of Indian Lore)

TheRiseAndFallOfScouting.org – How Scouting has gone downhill since I was a Scout in the 60s

EndTheBSAMonopoly.org – Proposal to allow competition in Scouting in the US

SaveThe OA.org – Battle against the efforts to make the OA easier, as Scouting has been made easier. Includes details of national’s proposal.

Facebook group SAVE THE OA – Huge, controversial group that, by allowing open discussion of all opinions, reveals the character of recent proposals to change the OA deeply. (Warning: do not go there unless you have thick skin. If you are a youth, have your parents’ permission.)

Privacy Policy

Data Collected

All registration field data is retained. This includes lodge information, age group, and parent email.

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the identity of the member, the person’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. User input is filed as soon as the logged-in user posts it. Members are trusted as Scouts and Elangomats and take responsibility for their input. There is no process of checking each post.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
